What We Deliver

- Electrical & services planning: power distribution, isolation, data, and lighting plans coordinated with MEP teams.
- Extraction solutions: correctly sized LEV for wood dust and fume applications, duct routing, and commissioning documentation.
- Compliance & documentation: layouts and processes aligned to relevant school standards and best practice (e.g., BS 4163 for D&T in educational settings).
- Install & handover: project management, on-site coordination, staff orientation, and aftercare.
DT Workshop Design & Installation service
To guarantee the safety of our DT workshop design solutions, we ensure that:
- Our workshop design service is BIM compliant. This includes condition reports and legacy audits for a long-term, cost-effective learning space.
- We use certified engineers to ensure we meet all legal requirements.
- All engineers are gas-safe registered and BOHS qualified.
- We meet compliance from start to finish. We adhere to HSG258 and BS4163:2014. We also adhere to the HSE advice Building Bulletin 81 and PUWER 98.
- On-site training is also part of the Design Technology Workshop Design & Installation package. We also provide DT machine maintenance. This ensures safe testing and compliance in your DT department.
Machine Maintenance
We also provide DT machine maintenance, which covers many tasks. These tasks include assessing the condition of machinery and conducting tests or adjustments.
There are several reasons for DT machine maintenance in your department:
- Maintain safe working conditions.
- Extend the lifespan.
- Reduce the health and safety risks for both students and staff.
- Minimise the cost of a breakdown or repair.
- Improve efficient working and problem solving.
- Ensure compliance.
Compliance with health and safety laws requires machine testing and servicing. Sufficient staff training is also vital for conditions where someone’s safety could be at risk. This is to ensure compliance with laws and guidelines.
Also, the quality and maintenance of DT equipment can affect risk assessments. Departments can use the feedback from inspectors for their risk assessments. Risk assessments can affect the frequency of machine maintenance.

Bespoke School-Based Training
Training can be delivered directly at your school and tailored to the specific needs of your D&T department, staff, facilities and equipment. Programmes can cover health and safety, machinery accreditation, practical skills, workshop practice, curriculum development and wider departmental support.
Open Training Courses
We also run a programme of scheduled open D&T training courses, advertised on our website. These courses are open to teachers and technicians from individual schools and provide an excellent opportunity to gain or renew essential D&T competencies while sharing knowledge and good practice with colleagues from other schools.
Our training is designed to develop staff confidence, competence and practical skills while supporting the safe and effective delivery of Design & Technology.
Andy Topliss – UK, South East Asia & China
Andy Topliss leads our D&T training programmes across the UK, South East Asia and China.
Andy has more than 20 years’ experience in Design & Technology education and is a former Head of Faculty for Art, Design, Engineering & Technology. He has extensive experience in practical D&T, workshop machinery, curriculum development and departmental leadership.
Andy is a Registered Design & Technology Health & Safety Consultant (RDTHSC) and delivers D&T Association-accredited health and safety training alongside practical skills and departmental development programmes.
His combination of classroom teaching, leadership, practical workshop knowledge and health and safety expertise enables him to deliver both our scheduled open courses and bespoke programmes tailored to individual schools.
Ben Goakes – Middle East & UK
Ben Goakes leads our D&T training programmes across the Middle East and UK.
Ben is a Registered Design & Technology Health & Safety Consultant (RDTHSC) and delivers professional development and D&T health and safety training for teachers, technicians and Heads of Department.
His training supports staff at different stages of their careers, including experienced D&T teachers requiring refresher training, Early Career Teachers and teachers moving into Design & Technology from other subject areas.
Ben can also work directly with schools and departments to support practical projects, curriculum development, workshop practice and the safe use of D&T tools, equipment and machinery.
